Nutanix en Dell werken al 14 jaar samen maar hebben hun contract vernieuwd om met een stevig alternatief uit te pakken voor VMware. Zo willen ze VMware-klanten overtuigen van hun aanbod.
Het alternatief bestaat uit een hybrid cloudoplossing op basis van de Dell XC Plus power edge hardware en het Nutanix AHV hypervisor en cloudsoftwareplatform, of een volledig geïntegreerde appliance, Dell XC Plus. De migratietool ‘move’ probeert de eerste prospecten te overtuigen bij middelgrote en grote ondernemingen.
Nogal wat VMware-gebruikers zijn misnoegd omdat ze na de overname door Broadcom eind vorig jaar geconfronteerd werden met een eenzijdige forse tariefverhoging. Heel wat klanten denken aan een alternatief zodra het VMware-contract afgelopen is. De gebruikersvereniging Beltug heeft eerder al de grieven opgelijst en is niet te spreken over de verhoging van de tarieven zonder enige inspraak. “Er is heel wat onzekerheid in de markt,” geeft Luc Costers aan. Hij is regionaal verantwoordelijk voor Belux, Oost-Europa en de buurlanden van Rusland die niet onder embargo liggen.
Dat Dell nu kiest voor een alternatief is toch opmerkelijk want het was Dell zelf dat VMware in 2003 overnam voor omgerekend 570 miljoen euro. Sinds de verkoop aan Broadcom treedt Dell niet meer op als distributeur en partner voor de TLA business, maar het blijft wel VMware integreren in de eigen hyperconverged oplossingen.
Koen Segers, managing director van Dell Belux die z’n sporen verdiende als channel sales director, gelooft echter sterk in de samenwerking met Nutanix: “Wij hebben een channel first aanpak.” Dell, dat zich grotendeels toelegt op hardware, staat in ons land voor een omzet van bijna 400 miljoen euro. “Nutanix is een software-only-company,” vertelt Luc Costers. Volgens Companyweb draait Nutanix in ons land een omzet van 7 miljoen euro, een toename met 27 procent tegenover 2022. Volgens verwachting zouden die inkomsten in dezelfde trend toenemen op basis van de contractverlengingen en nieuwe klanten.
In het verleden werkte Nutanix samen met HPE, Lenovo en Super Micro, platformen die zo’n 70 procent van de installaties vertegenwoordigden. De nieuwe samenwerking met Dell moet daar verandering in brengen. “Dell heeft een leger verkopers. Dat helpt ons zeker,” vindt Luc Costers. “En we kunnen onze resellers een mooie korting bieden,” argumenteert Koen Segers. Hoeveel dat dan is wil hij liever niet kwijt.
